Konzept

As a unique natural and cultural environment, the sprawling dune landscape of Norddeich and the adjoining Wadden Sea, a natural World Heritage site, are of preeminent importance for the entire region. The careful remodelling of the existing dune and its extension to link up with the national park promenade will lastingly safeguard this important natural setting and preserve it for future generations.

West of the dune, a botanical landscape garden merges seamlessly into a typical salt marsh landscape. Boardwalks through the dunes lead visitors from the promenade alongside the dyke down to the water, thereby protecting the sensitive ecosystem from excessive strain. A nature trail through the dune presents the flora and fauna of this regionally typical dune landscape at 15 points along the way, and an info stand in a repurposed shipping container offers lots of interesting information. Various experiential elements that are integrated into larger swales in the dune playfully convey an awareness of nature conservation and the natural heritage to children and young people alike.

As part of a circular route through the national park, visitors walking on the promenade can stroll along the water’s edge. Terraces along the sea, which consist of walkable/sittable steps integrated into the promenade, combined with an event area offer direct access to the water and encourage people to linger. All of the areas are designed to be barrier-free and accessible to everyone, so as to promote health and recreation.
